                   Iowa City Boys Baseball National All Stars 
                                                   WIN
           Babe Ruth / Cal  Ripken 10U State of Iowa Tournament

From a shortened season and sandbagging to a successful state tournament, the 10-year-old Iowa City National league All Star team did the improbably.  Due to the flooding of the baseball fields in City Park here in Iowa City last month, the Iowa City Boys Baseball season was cut short.  Most of the ICBB players were resigned to the fact that baseball was finished for the year.  So, many switched from throwing baseballs to throwing sandbags in order to help those in need..  

Then, four All Star teams were selected from players from different teams.  The National League 10U All Stars after only three practices at Happy Hollow Park competed in the State Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken tournament in Washington, Iowa, July 5-9.  Winning the first two games in the double elimination tourney, the Iowa City team lost a heart breaker in the bottom of the last inning to a tough Manchester team that took two days to play, because rain suspended play.  Fighting through adversity, like those in towns with flooding problems, this 10-year-old group came through the losers bracket and defeated the same Manchester team two times to win the championship!

The 10-year-olds will now represent Iowa City and the State of Iowa at the Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken Midwest Plains Regional tournament in Burlington, Colorado.  These young men would like to continue playing baseball, and we are asking for your support if possible.  If you would be so kind as to make a donation it would be appreciated.  Please make checks payable to Iowa City Boys Baseball (a non-profit organization) and mail them to: (Indicate on the check that donation is for the All Star Team)
